The event on December 12th is at the Kyoto Prefectural Yamashiro Sports Park Taiyogaoka (山城総合運動公園 太陽が丘 体育館). The closest station is Uji(JR) (宇治) which is on the Nara line. From there it's a 40-minute walk, or you can take a bus or taxi. For directions by train to the station, please use this useful website:
If you take a bus, get on bus #44 headed towards Taiyogaoka (太陽が丘). It will take about 15-25 minutes. We recommend showing your sumo ticket to the driver to make sure you are on the correct bus.
The event begins at 9:00am and finishes at 3:00pm, but you can arrive at any time. Here are the details (times are approximate):
9:00am - open practice for wrestlers
12:00pm - lower division matches, comic sumo performance, drums
1:30pm - upper division ring entrance ceremony and matches
3:00pm - bow-twirling ceremony, end of event
No shoes are allowed in the venue. Bring your own slippers. You can buy them in convenience stores.
Ringside and Box are sitting on the floor. You can bring your own cushion or buy a souvenir cushion for 1,500 yen in the venue.
Children 3 years old and younger don't need a ticket if they don't need their own seat, but only on the 2nd floor. Children 5 years old and younger may not sit in Ringside 'S' at all.
Food Sets are available for purchase in advance. You can add them to your cart along with your seat ticket. Food sales on the day of the event will be limited, so we advise buying in advance if you want to eat at the event. Food Set contains a boxed lunch, green tea, and program. These sets do not include a ticket to enter the event.
Ticket prices include our service fee (2,000 yen for entry tickets, 500 yen for Sets) and payment fees (about 3% of ticket price).
